How budget hotels in Kenya can improve revenue

Make the guests feel at home

It doesn’t matter whether your guests are just staying for one night or for two weeks, you must always do your best to make them feel like they are at home. You can soften the decor by adding comfortable furniture, flowers and pictures on the wall.

Having a lobby and a breakfast area with comfortable seating areas makes your hotel feel more like a home and less like a sterile hospital room or non descript office. Remember when your hotel is warm and welcoming; people will always want to come back.

Differentiate your hotel from your competitors

As a hotel owner, give your guests a reason to choose your hotel over a hotel that is just two blocks away. You can do this on the basis of price, policy or service. So as not to lose the battle by dropping your room rates 25 percent below your competitor’s rates, you can have a policy whereby you are always at or near the lowest rate in town.

Make your employees happy

In any industry it’s very important that you strive to make your employees happy. It is therefore important that your employees project a friendly and outgoing attitude toward the customer.
If you make your employees happy by paying them fairly and recognizing them for their achievements, there is no doubt that they will want to be good ambassadors for your hotel. When your employees go above and beyond their official duties o help out a guest, it creates tremendous goodwill and can lead to repeat visits and good recommendations.

Interact with hotel guests personally

Guests will take notice when the person at the front desk calls them by their name. It also makes a difference to the guests if the manager takes the time to walk around the breakfast area and ask them if they are enjoying their stay. This shows that the guest is important and not just another face in the crowd.

Sell hotel branded products

You can make available for purchase branded hotel products like towels, linen and shampoos. This way the guests will feel connected to your hotel.

Be creative, proactive and productive

You do not have to do the same things each passing day. If a guest has an unusual problem, be creative to find a good solution and if you see something not quite right, be proactive and fix it before it leads to a complaint. It doesn’t matter if it is engaging a customer or sweeping the floor, a productive employee will help the hotel function more efficiently.

The above tips will help budget hotels in Kenya grow and compete well in hotel industry.
